THURS 20th JAN - SUPPORTING TWIN ATLANTIC - FIBBERS // YORK

Thursday 31 December 2009

Time for us all to reflect...

Without getting too sentimental, that time of the year has come once again to look back over the year 2009 at what we've all achieved - the laughs, the tears, the drunken 'memories', the goals we set and are proud to say we achieved or disappointedly, well...didn't, the friends we made or lost, the best gig/festival of the year, that one song that makes up one more year on the soundtrack of your life....(anyone else feel like we're in an episode of The O.C. - cue powerful, heart-wrenching music!)

For us, it's been a good year. Despite losing out in a Battle of the Bands competition which would have meant a victory for the 3rd year running (York 2007, Scotland's 'Making It Big' 2008), we have instead played with a number of big names on stages of all shapes and sizes. We have supported The Futureheads, Shed Seven, Bear Hands, Red Light Company and Twisted Wheel. We have shared the stages at Sellindge Festival and Copmanthorpe Carnival with the likes of Supergrass, The Holloways and Elliot Minor. We released our second E.P. 'Spider Season' and ventured down for a mini tour in London on top of our 1st stadium appearance to perform 'Snap Shut' before a Leeds Rhino game at Carnegie Stadium. All-in-all it's been a pretty decent year. And we thank you for your support in all of this.

But now it's time to turn over to 2010 and make those all important New Year's resolutions. What are your resolutions for 2010? What is the new year going to bring?

Hopefully bigger stages, bigger names, bigger crowds...
We have been grateful for the money and time you have granted us turning up to our gigs, travelling around and buying our music, as well as the ear-bashing you have received from our Facebook updates (those of you who STILL haven't actually been to a gig, I think we all know what your new year resolution is!).

So raise your glasses. Here's to a new decade. A new year.

The Year of the Ghosts.

Happy New Year!

HO! HO! HO!

Have we got a special treat for you this Wednesday!
As it is our final gig of the year, 2 days before actual Christmas, we thought we would do something a little different.

As a way of thanking our fans for their continued support through 2009 we are going to play a few old songs, a few songs that have never been played to you before and a few of our more well known songs, except not quite the way we usually play them....!! To get a little taste before Wednesday, you may want to listen to our 'Arachnacoustic' version of Spider Season at our Myspace...

Bring your festive cheer cos it's going to be one fun Christmas party!

So you've ended up here...

There may be various reasons for this happening...

Numero Uno: you were one of the lucky ones that ended up with HG promo in your grubby mit (or in you coat pocket!!) and thought you would check us out, gald you did!

Numero Dos: You've 'googled' "Hungry Ghosts" and ended up here whether it be intentionally or not...again, glad to have you here!

Numero Tres: You know this site already, your probably my Mum and you fancied having a nosey at the drivvle we are churning out these days...so to you...HI MUM!

Anyway, my main reason to post (other than to say a quick hello as its been a while since I've posted on here!) was to let you know that you CAN STILL GET YOUR HANDS ON FREE MUSIC!!

Just send an email to hungryghostsblog@googlemail.com with "free track" in the title and you will almost instantaneously receive the instructions on how to download your free track.

Hope you enjoy it and that we will see you all soon!

Kindest Regards!

"It's Getting Better All The Time..."

...as said by some wise man. Rick I think his name was...

Anyway, we have woken up with smiles on our faces this morning as we reflect upon the great response we received from so many Shed fans; so many music fans. Although it was an earlier gig than usual we still managed to play to some keen supporters (if you were at the barrier and took advantage of the free t-shirts draped over it, please wear yours with pride!).

I managed to get to chat to a number of people as you were leaving while myself and the team handed out our flyers - yes, it's not all glitz and glamour when you have to do your own promotion :) - but on the positive side, I got to find out what you really thought of us (cunning). Could I be anymore overwhelmed? Probably not. We have definitely put Nottingham on our Christmas card list that's for sure.

Remember this name, remember where you saw us first. Hopefully we will meet again....

NEWCASTLE WAS....

pretty amazing, right?! We finally get to our humble abodes at 2:30am, but what's another few minutes of sleep lost in order to thank those who travelled to see us in Newcastle and those who went to see the hosts, but may have appreciated our music a little bit! Let it be known that the Shed's were on top form, but we hope that we've broken through their fans and added to our tally! It was the first time we have played in Newcastle and once we were shouted at by a Shed fan on the front barrier to "play some f***ing music" as soon as we walked on stage, we realised we were in a good place.

Please give us a tinkle on the ol' Myspace or Facebook page. Follow the links below for more Hungry goodness.

Cheers pet :) x

EXCLUSIVE YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS!!

Imagine turning on the TV to watch 'Come Dine With Me' (Celebrity episode of course!) to find it is a Hungry Ghosts Special...well that's not what's happening but it is something too similar to contest.
The band have been slaving away in the metaphorical musical kitchen creating the perfect meal that is the next EP. Think of this as the main course. A wholesome dish full of elegant flavours to satisfy your tastebuds.
The smells are wafting through but, as this is a 3-course meal, we can't leave you hungry. Pour yourself a glass of your finest and wait for the starter to be served because you're in for a treat!
Head over to www.myspace.com/hungryghostsuk to hear three special tracks that will certainly whet your appetite: the arachn-acoustic version of 'Spider Season'; a live acoustic version of 'By The Bridge': and a beautiful new track called 'Indiana'.

Please leave the chef your comments and hope you're not too full for the main course and dessert!!

Update from HG HQ

With James taking time away with family this week, we thought it would be a good time to take a break from the studio and let you know what's going on in the HG camp.

Over the past weeks, we have been working on our next E.P. over at Bad Bear studios and Studio 47. We are in the final mixing stages and already this E.P is looking to be the best one yet. We have a really good feeling about the quality of these recordings and hopefully it won't be too long a wait to release them. No date has been confirmed yet.

On top of the E.P recordings, earlier this year we recorded some acoustic tracks which should be going up on Myspace in the next week.

As for shows, the next one is in November in York supporting Alvin Purple so make sure you make that date free! If you haven't seen you play this year, it might be the last one of the year so make sure you are a part of it!

Take it easy (and remember the clocks went back an hour last night!)

Party Time

Message from Clark:

"I am looking forward to turning 25, although I am told it is downhill from here! If that's the case I may as well start with a bang and have a blow-out this weekend. My celebrations are starting today but tomorrow (Sunday) is my actual birthday which is great as we have a gig. Unfortunately Sound of Guns have pulled out to go on tour with The Twang (!), but on the plus-side, we are now the headlining act. I'm hoping that so many of you can come along to celebrate my birthday and get some bands in as well".

Junction, York.
Entry £4. Party starts 8pm onwards.

Sunday 4 October 2009

The One Where Clark Turns 25

Hello one and all,

It is my birthday on Sunday 11th Oct which is also the date we play at The Junction, York with a band I am listening to right now called 'Sound Of Guns'.
www.myspace.com/soundofguns

As general as this invite may sound I, of course, would like you to be there to help celebrate with me in fine style not as fans but as friends. And if you are having trouble thinking what to get me for a present (!) I would be very grateful that you bought a ticket to the event.

If you don't, I feel I may suffer from a quarter-life crisis...is that what you want?? Is It????

Right, must go and assess my life's goals over a game of POGS.

FUN TIMES

I think it's safe to say Friday night at Stone Roses was a lot of fun. The crowd was made warm and fuzzy by the ever-brilliant Minus IQ and the crowd made us feel warm and fuzzy throughout our set (even one guy I managed to pick out shouting his request for 'Snap Shut' after every song!) Patience my friend, patience.

In other news, we had a very big BBQ yesterday courtesy of 'Casa Henderson' which finally made us full! By the evening we all had that Boxing Day feeling of having eaten so much, sitting in front of the TV in an almost horizontal state resting a bottle of beer on our bellies, slightly doe-eyed, bored of our Christmas presents and ready to fall asleep! Goooooood times.

This week we will be recording the last few bits ready to start the enduring process of mixing and getting ready for Thursday's big one at Fibbers in York supporting Twisted Wheel. Hope to see you there!

BLOGS / GIGS / STUDIO

3 new shows in York have just been added to the list for October and November (including one on Clark's birthday!) so make some space in your diaries for these.
Remember that the next show we have on 25th September is FREE ENTRY so don't miss this! (Age restrictions: 18+)

If you join us on Facebook we will be posting videos of stuff we've been up to throughout the year so you will be able to see what goes on behind closed doors....If you go now you can see 'Hungry Ghosts at The Olympics'!

In the studio, we are working on our next project (and deciding whether to call it an E.P. or mini-album!). Ant and Clark spent 4 days recording their drums and bass tracks and some of the guitars were recorded too; Adam and James will continue their efforts from this evening in our 2nd studio. We are starting to hear a much maturer sound already but it's not going to be rushed. It has to be right.

ENERGY RELEASED!

A big thanks again to all of you who stopped by to watch us at Fibbers on Wednesday! Hope you enjoyed the new song too! We were definitely ready to play as we hadn't seen each other for a month for all our busy lives outside of the 'Ghosts! We couldn't wait to play a gig that, although featured most of the usual songs, somehow seemed quite fresh and had a real energy about it.
When asked what it felt like to have played after a month off, Ant replied, "Playing these songs tonight felt like being re-united with an old friend!"

Friend and fan of the band, Daymo Sweeting, said "You have so many great songs; your set was too short to fit them all in!" as he leaves the venue wanting more!!

Look out for video blogs, further updates and forthcoming shows.....

Life Outside Hungry Ghosts

Hello one and all...

It seems like we haven't been in touch for a while, although it probably is actually just a few days!
The reason for that is because we have been very busy people, but not necessarily just with Hungry Ghosts! (Yes, we are capable of other things!). In fact, everyone has been working on exciting projects outside of the 'Hungry Ghosts' Empire lately.

Ant has started his new photography project which concentrates on live music but also other areas of image capturing. Have a look at the site:
www.hendosyndromephotography.co.uk

James has been continuing working on a side project with our very good friends at 'Radio Gypsy' and has returned to writing a musical in preparation for a youth theatre project in his hometown in August which tries to encourage children into the Arts, which has had a positive response in his previous years.

Clark has also been musical theatre-ing. Last week he got a 9-show job playing drums for the sold out 60's musical 'Hairspray'.

And Adam has taken his songwriting talents and started working with James on some new tracks to take into the rehearsal studio. Even at at these early stages they have great potential so expect more great songs once we've run our grubby little mits through them!

But maybe more importantly Adam has been helping to keep the alcohol industry alive as we discovered when he was found unconscious with his head inside the toilet bowl!

From inside the Hungry Ghosts camp, album plans are underway with recording expected to start in Autumn!!

In the meantime, if you've not seen the new 'Spider Season' video it is on all of our sites. Let us know what you think too as your opinions matter. You are the fans after all!!

Talk soon

Update from HG HQ

HG were back in their regular rehearsal slot this week; dedicated to the cause we certainly are! And what happened? Well, we only went and wrote two new songs didn't we?! Still need some more time in the rehearsal room though to perfect them but they sound exciting.

If you haven't seen the new video yet then you've obviously not been looking hard enough, especially since it is on Myspace, Facebook, YouTube and er, at the top of this page!!

Besides that, nothing else to really report. Clark had a swine flu panic and went to hospital last night (but doesn't have it, so it is ok to approach him!).

Over.

We have something to show you...

This weekend will be an exciting one because, following on from a good gig in Sheffield last night, on Friday we'll be playing at The Cockpit in Leeds; a venue we've never played before so we're all looking forward to playing there.
Not only that, if you hunt around over our websites (this one, myspace, facebook, youtube, etc) you will find a new addition in the form of a music video for 'Spider Season'!

Hope to see a lot of you in Leeds tomorrow!

A few thank-yous are in order for today...Minster FM for running the music stage; Jem, Si and the rest of the sound & stage crew for doing their usual grand job...but also the supportive Yorkshire folk at Cop Carnival (which is probably you!). THE BRAND NEW 'SPIDER SEASON' EP IS AVAILABLE TO BUY AND DOWNLOAD NOW AT:

iTUNES

Following the release of the debut EP 'Snap Shut', our follow-up EP featuring 'Spider Season', 'Archaeology' and 'Something Rational' is now available at the link above

Sunday 7 June 2009

Grrr-eaatt!!

Right then. We have returned to the comfort of our own homes and greeted with the pleasures of Ant's ma & pa's sunday dinner bbq (leg ends!) after, what seems, a very busy couple of days.

Friday was our EP Launch which went down really well (I think). It was pretty loud where I was sitting but people were singing along at the end even after being sprayed with silly string so I'm guessing it went well!
We would have loved to have continued the party with many of you but we had to head straight down to Kent to play Sellindge Festival - couldn't risk even a few hours kip in case we slept in and missed the chance to play on the Main Stage with the likes of Supergrass and The Holloways! So with amps and guitar cases acting as beds we hit the road!

Once we arrived, we set up camp in the artist's field (some of us having the luxury of pop-up tents!) enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of Sellindge and rocked out to a field of sun-kissed music lovers. Post-gig, we were free to roam and had a jam in the African Djembe & percussion tent, James and I chatted to some fans and Adam had a great drunken idea to get his face painted like a tiger.
Not quite following in the footsteps of Kiss, but maybe Adam could get sponsorship from Frosties one day.

Anyway, back to the real world.

NEW EP LAUNCH PARTY!!!

This Friday 5th June is the launch party of our next E.P 'Spider Season' at Fibbers Barfly in York. The E.P features the title track, as well as 'Archaeology', and 'Something Rational'. Tickets are selling at the very cheap price of £4 in advance which, when you bring your ticket along to the show, you will get a copy of this EP.....ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!

If you are unable to make the gig and really, really, really want-our-new-songs-so-badly-like-'Oh-my-god-I-need-them-now!' sort of thing (or words to that effect), you can go to iTunes and buy them!

Hungry Ghosts supported The Futureheads

On Friday night HG supported The Futureheads at York St John's Summer Ball which was a night of fun and frolics. We were happy to be a part of the university's final event of the student calendar and have pictures and videos following our events of the evening which we will put up onto Myspace & Facebook soon!!

'End of the Month' Thankyou

This month has been a very odd month in terms of shows, with a lot of let-downs both for us as a band, and for you as fans. At the beginning of the month there was the gig in Parliament Street which, due to sound difficulties, meant we were moved to the following day. This was a real shame as a lot of you came to see us who usually couldn't see us due to having small children etc, and this was their chance to see us too, but unfortunately missed us! However we did manage to play to a great audience and somehow in between the rain showers!! :)

Then, on Saturday we were expected to play Liverpool Sound City Festival in an open air amphitheatre however, due to weather conditions + electrical equipment = not a good combo (!), last minute decisions meant we couldn't play!

Then the biggest thing of the month was the Battle of the Bands Final. We have mulled over this for enough hours so all we are going to say to those who aren't aware of the result...we came last! A disappointing and rather confusing result but the judges obviously made a very FAIR and calculated decision based on very strong performance and song quality criteria......!

Regardless of losing out to £1500 and also the fans, our friends and families, spending so much money following us through the campaign, we are eternally grateful. We would like to show our appreciation in the form of our E.P Launch on 5th June at Fibbers so we can give you some free Hungry Ghosts goodness! We are selling tickets at £4, but your treasures in return will be priceless!

Thanks again, The Band x

Spring is Here!

Well!

Hasn't it been a rip-roaring ride for the last few weeks. Gigs here there and everywhere and generally being busy back in the studio.

First off, a big thank you to those that came down to Fibbers for our first heat of BOTB. We made it through to the semi's (even though Skylights brought down most of Acomb!) and our semi final is fast approaching (15th of April if you didn't know)!

Also, thank you to those folk who got their phones out and rattled through hundreds of text votes to get us through Leeds Rhino's BOTB...our first stadium gig and its safe to say, the strangest, fastest, most frantic gig we have ever played! An update will be posted soon when we find out what happens next!

Recording is going well. Three songs almost finished and a fourth which needs re working...just didn't sound right unfortunately.

There have been gigs cancelled, re-arranged and new ones added so keep your eye on the listings as you never know what might change from one day to the next at the moment.

Other news in brief:

We have a new van (thanks Alan!)
Adam has a new job
We have new songs - which may or may not be showcased soon!

AND

Its almost Ants birthday (5 days to go!)

Nothing else to report!

Ghosts, OUT!

Sunday 15 March 2009

Wacky interview!

Last week HG teamed up with Local Independent Music who have started promoting new talent from Yorkshire and the North East and asked them a few questions in an attempt to delve into the murky waters of just exactly who or what are Hungry Ghosts. There are two versions, the first being a rather wacky interview, the second being more serious version...bah! We do like the first one better, but have a look for yourself and decide.

Sunday 1 March 2009

Update from HG HQ

Firstly, thanks to those of you who continued your support and saw us last night at The Duchess, had an amazing gig! And of course, our appreciation goes out to Olly for fulfilling his guitar playing duties while Adam has been away.

We are back to the rehearsal room tomorrow ready for our next batch of shows and also to continue writing new stuff and re-writing some old stuff that you maybe heard once before back in the day that just don't get played these days.

We're getting ever closer to a final product of the next E.P. so expect it in Spring sometime.

In the mean time, please keep up your efforts in supporting us; visit the site, our Myspace, and join our facebook page if you still haven't done it!

NEXT SHOW: 14th March supporting Red Light Company @ Fibbers

Sunday 1 February 2009

And also a big thanks to Minster FM for letting us put our music out to the fine people of York. We hope you will take a look at the upcoming gigs and join us once again! Merry February! x
